Although there are many different Christian denominations in the world today, the Church Jesus established is only one. The early Church all kept the same teachings and believed in Jesus in the same way, with the understanding that He was God in the flesh. An undeniable truth that the early Church kept, following the teachings of Jesus, was the New Covenant Passover. However, general Christians today do not celebrate the Passover and they deny its importance. Why is this case?

Let us understand the importance of the New Covenant Passover and why only the World Mission Society Church of God celebrates the New Covenant Passover today.

Teachings of Jesus – The New Covenant Passover

John 6:53-54 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”

Luke 22:7-8, 19-20 Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover.”….. And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.”

These verses are undeniable proof that the New Covenant Passover was given by Jesus to His followers, and it is absolute teaching we must follow to receive eternal life from Him.

Then what about after Jesus ascended to heaven? Did the early Church continue to celebrate the Passover? Let us see what Jesus instructed His disciples whom He entrusted with His gospel work and with the blessing of taking care of His Church.

Matthew 28:19-20 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

After baptism, the disciples were instructed to teach people to obey everything Jesus commanded them. Then, what is one command Jesus gave His disciples that they were to teach all nations to obey? That we must eat of His flesh through the Passover bread, and drink of His blood through the Passover wine, to have forgiveness of sins and eternal life (Mt 26:19, 26-28). The early Church continued to celebrate Passover after Jesus’ ascension and they taught the truth and importance of keeping the New Covenant Passover to all people they preached to.

Early Church Kept the New Covenant Passover

1 Corinthians 5:7-8 Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old bread leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Paul emphasizes that because Jesus, who is our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed, we are to therefore keep the festival (celebrate the feast). Then during what feast of God was a Passover lamb sacrificed? The Passover! Therefore, because Jesus was sacrificed as the reality of the sacrificial Passover Lamb, Paul instructs the early church to keep the New Covenant Passover festival.

1 Corinthians 11:1, 23-26 Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ…. For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

We can see in the gospels, that Jesus was betrayed on the night of the Passover (Lk 22; Mt 26). Paul is reminding the saints, that on the night Jesus was betrayed, He taught us to eat bread and drink wine representing His body and blood. Although there were other times when Jesus broke bread and gave wine, only on the night of the Passover did He refer to the bread and wine He gave as His body and blood that gives forgiveness of sins and eternal life.

Therefore, Paul is reminding the saints of Jesus’ teaching given on the Passover night and emphasizing that Jesus reminded His saints to celebrate the Passover to commemorate His death. Like this, the early Church continued to celebrate the Passover, following the teachings and examples of Jesus Christ.

Works of Satan – Change God’s Law

As the New Covenant Passover was given by Jesus for the salvation of mankind, Satan naturally went against this teaching and made efforts to make the saints forget its importance and abolish the Passover.

Galatians 1:6-9 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!

Even in the days of the early Church, Satan was already making efforts to change the teachings of Christ. The Apostles were firmly standing against the work of Satan, by continuing to preach and practice the truth.

2 Thessalonians 2:4-7 He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God. Don’t you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things? And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time. For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.

During the days of the early Church, Satan was already at work trying to abolish the law of God, but he was unsuccessful. While the Apostles were still alive, Satan failed in changing the law of God. However, once the Apostolic Age ended, Satan began to change the law of God and introduce the teachings of men. This was already prophesied to occur.

Daniel 7:25 (NLT) He will defy the Most High and oppress the holy people of the Most High. He will try to change their sacred festivals and laws, and they will be placed under his control for a time, times, and half a time.

The Most High is God. And the one who speaks against God is Satan. One thing Satan was prophesied to do is change God’s sacred festivals and laws. Exactly as prophesied, Satan began to change God’s sacred festivals and laws, such as the Sabbath and the Passover.

Abolishment of the New Covenant Passover

The early Church faithfully kept the Passover after Jesus ascended to heaven. However, after the Apostolic Age, Satan began to plant lawlessness in the Church to hinder the gospel work of Christ. Satan’s efforts to abolish the Passover led to two Passover controversies in A.D. 155 and A.D. 197. However, it was not until the Council of Nicaea convened by Emperor Constantine in A.D. 325, that the Passover was finally abolished.

After the Council of Nicaea in A.D. 325, the saints that continued to keep the Passover as Jesus taught, not yielding to the authority of the church of Rome, were regarded as heretics and got persecuted. The saints who wanted to live according to the teachings of Christ had to keep the Passover moving out into huts, deserts, or caves (See a History of the Early Church to A.D. 500, p.193). However, because the truth of life was abolished, God prophesied that He would come again in the last days to restore the New Covenant Passover, the truth of salvation.

The Second Coming Christ Ahnsahnghong – Restoration of the Passover

Hebrews 9:28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

Christ would appear a second time to bring salvation. Christ is always with us in spirit. And when He appeared the first time, He came in the flesh as a man. Since He’s going to appear a second time, it means He will appear again in the flesh as a man. And since Christ comes a second time to bring salvation, nobody can receive salvation without receiving the Second Coming Christ who comes in the flesh to restore the lost truth of salvation.

Then how will the Second Coming Christ bring salvation to us in the last days? Since only those who eat His flesh and drink His blood have eternal life, He will surely restore the New Covenant Passover! Therefore, only the Second Coming Christ can restore the New Covenant Passover for He is the only one who can give us salvation.

Isaiah 25:6-8 On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine— the best of meats and the finest of wines. On this mountain he will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations; he will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. The Lord has spoken.

In the last days, God will prepare a feast with aged wine to swallow up death forever. The only feast of the new covenant celebrated with wine is the Passover. And only the Passover wine has the promise to swallow up death forever and give eternal life.

Then why is the Passover wine referred to as “aged wine?” It is because the New Covenant Passover was abolished at the Council of Nicaea in A.D. 325, and it was not celebrated for about 1,600 years! According to prophecy, the One who restores this aged wine is God Himself.

Isaiah 25:9 “Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us. This is the Lord, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.”

What would we say about the One who restores the aged wine of the Passover in the last days? Surely this is our God! This is the LORD! And we will rejoice in His salvation! As the Second Coming Christ would appear to bring salvation, this is a prophecy about the Second Coming Christ restoring the New Covenant Passover in the last days as proof that He is God and our Savior.

Then, only who has restored the New Covenant Passover, proving Himself to be the Second Coming Christ? Only Christ Ahnsahnghong! Then who is Christ Ahnsahnghong according to Bible prophecy? He is surely our God, we trusted in Him, and He saved us. He is the LORD, we trusted in Him; let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation.

Salvation in the Church of God that Keeps the Passover

Then why does only the World Mission Society Church of God celebrate the New Covenant Passover today? Because it is the only church established by the Second Coming Christ Ahnsahnghong! Following the teachings of Christ, both at His first and second coming, the Church of God is inviting all people to come and receive God’s promise of salvation contained in the New Covenant Passover. Won’t you join us?
