The Church of God ZionJuly 14, 2023
There are countless churches in the world and all have different doctrines from each other. How can we distinguish the true church from the false churches? The Bible describes the Church of God as Zion. Many people will be surprised to know that Jesus established a church 2000 years ago and called it the Church of God.
Matthew 16:18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
Jesus said He will build His church. Then, what is the name of the church?
1 Corinthians 1:1-2 Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and our brother Sosthenes, To the church of God in Corinth…
Galatians 1:13 For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it.
The Apostle Paul severely persecuted the church that Jesus had established, before he received Him and called the church that he intensely persecuted the “Church of God.”
Physical Zion and Spiritual Zion – The Church of God
The Church of God is called Zion. What is the reason behind it? To understand this, we need to know that there are two types of Zion, physical Zion and spiritual Zion. The physical Zion was built by King David in what is known as Palestine and spiritual Zion was built by the prophetical King David, Jesus Christ, 2000 years ago. Let us confirm the relationship between Jesus and David.
Ezekiel 37:24-25 “My servant David will be king over them, and they will all have one shepherd. They will follow my laws and be careful to keep my decrees. They will live in the land I gave to my servant Jacob, the land where your ancestors lived. They and their children and their children’s children will live there forever, and David my servant will be their prince forever.
Jesus came to this earth as the prophetical David and fulfilled this prophecy according to the writer Luke.
Luke 1: 31-32 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David
Jesus fulfilled the prophecy of David. The work of David accomplished in the Old Testament are a prophecy about the works that Jesus would fulfill in the New Testament. The most remarkable work King David did was to build Zion(2 Sam 5:7-10). King David and Zion were closely intertwined, which is why it was known as the City of David. The city was constructed by David himself and served as his residence. This was a prophecy that Jesus would build and dwell in spiritual Zion.
The Church of God Zion Established by Jesus
Physical Zion is an actual place. However, spiritual Zion is not an actual place but it is the church that keeps the Festivals of God.
Isaiah 33:20 Look on Zion, the city of our festivals; your eyes will see Jerusalem, a peaceful abode, a tent that will not be moved; its stakes will never be pulled up, nor any of its ropes broken.
Jesus established the spiritual Zion by establishing the Church of God that keeps all the feasts of God in the new covenant. Jesus gave us the blessing of eternal life by celebrating the Passover with His disciples (Matthew 26:17-28), He promised the blessing of the water of life by keeping the Feast of Tabernacles (John 7:2; 37-39), and poured out the Holy Spirit on the Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4). He also kept the Sabbath day as the weekly feast (Luke 4:16).
Fall & Restoration of Zion
Fall of Zion
Today many churches are familiar with the word Zion as it is mentioned frequently. However, they do not clearly know what Zion indicates because the Bible prophesied Zion will be ruined by the devil.
Isaiah 51:3 The Lord will surely comfort Zion and will look with compassion on all her ruins; he will make her deserts like Eden, her wastelands like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound of singing.
Daniel 7:25 He will speak against the Most High and oppress his holy people and try to change the set times and the laws. The holy people will be delivered into his hands for a time, times and half a time.
The above prophesies were fulfilled as Zion was destroyed and ruined during the Dark Ages. The Truths of the New Covenant that Jesus established were all changed; the Sabbath day was abolished in AD 321 and the Passover in AD 325. The customs of the sun-god worship such as Sunday worship, Christmas and Easter were introduced and as a result, Zion was ruined and the truth of the New Covenant taken away.
Restoration of Zion
Who will repair the ruined Zion? According to the Bible (Isaiah 53:1), this is the work God Himself will carry out.
Psalms 102:16-22 For the Lord will rebuild Zion and appear in his glory… So the name of the Lord will be declared in Zion and his praise in Jerusalem when the peoples and the kingdoms assemble to worship the Lord.
Micah 4:1-2 In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and peoples will stream to it. Many nations will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.” The law will go out from Zion, the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
The World Mission Society Church of God is the only Church in the world that keeps all the feasts of the New Covenant. It was prophesied that many people from various nations will stream to Zion in the last days, and that there the Lord God Himself will teach His people the truth. According to this prophecy, God’s dwelling is in Zion and the place God’s people are blessed. Now God’s people are streaming to Zion, longing for eternal life from God who dwells in Zion, for this reason the World Mission Society is the true Zion.
